Featured Dog House 9: Max -n- Madison's Rancho "Double M"Location: Texas, USABuilder: Jaime
The dog house I built for our "puppies" started out as a "weekend project" and soon turned into a week and a half adventure. I received some great information from your web site. So, with a little knowledge, no wood working experience what so ever, and some borrowed tools, I set forth on the great adventure that would some how result in a means of shelter for our 2 children...(Madison and Max). The overall plan called for a 4x4 floor, an off-set front door that would provide protection from the wind (yes, this I learned from the web site), a pitched roof and a "window" that could be opened for added circulation during the summer months. Many of the "amenities" were after thoughts that seemed to work right into the construction process (a good example would be the vinyl siding!). Some might say that I went a little over board on this house. Honestly, I am surprised at how well it turned out. We get a few compliments on it, it doesn't leak, and most of all...the dogs like it!!! It cost us about $250, and weighs 300 lbs.( I really don't know how much it weighs, but I did have to slide it on skids to get it where I wanted it in the yard!!!) And when we move it'll have to stay here...it won't fit through the gate!
The only suggestions I have for somebody wanting to build a dog house...use wood screws instead of nails and have fun!!
